Freshwater Technician, Wairarapa

Do you have a passion for working with rural communities and enjoy working outdoors?

The Wairarapa Pūkaha to Kawakawa Alliance (WaiP2K) is seeking a freshwater technician to work with farmer-led catchment community groups (CCG) in the Wairarapa to support them with freshwater monitoring.

This is an exciting opportunity for you to become part of a strong, tightly-knit and hardworking team. Training in the delivery of our science-based programs will be provided in the role, and through attendance at the Mountains to Sea Conservation Trust Wānanga in October 2022.

This will involve working with a wide range of stakeholder and community partners, from a variety of backgrounds, cultures and age groups, to build effective working relationships and achieve meaningful action for freshwater biodiversity.

In this role you will support CCG with all aspects of freshwater monitoring, including coordination with CCG, in-stream sampling and recording monitoring data, as well as assisting at workshops.

To be successful in the role you:

  • Be able to demonstrate good data management and communication skills
  • Willing to learn
  • Have computer skills in using spreadsheets for data entry
  • Have excellent coordination skills
  • Be able work with a broad range of people
  • Have respect for te ao Māori me ngā tikanga
  • Have a full driver’s license
  • Be fit and love the outdoors

Eligibility to work in New Zealand is mandatory.

This role is an entry-level, part-time, fixed-term contract to 30 June 2023, located in the Wairarapa. Working hours are flexible.

The role will be for one to two days per week. The days and hours will be flexible and could change from week to week, depending on the availability of the catchment groups.
